Installing Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Java comes in two flavors, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and the Java Development Kit (JDK). The JRE contains only the necessary functionality to start Java programs, while the JDK contains in addition the development tools. Eclipse is a Java program, but it doesn't include the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) necessary to make it run. If you don't have a JRE installed on your computer, you can install using Ubuntu's apt-get command as follows:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openjdk-11-jre
